The 2005 Energy Policy Act excluded hydraulic fracturing from regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

In 2009 the FRAC Act was introduced to both houses. Its major aims are repealling this exemption, and requiring disclosure of the checimcals used in the drilling process.

The Reason

I was ignorant to the dangers posed by hydraulic fracture drilling for natural gas in America. I thought, "Hey, natural gas. Sounds safe. Maybe even eco-friendly."

Wrong--on both counts.

Hydraulic drilling is unregulated in this country. There is no monitoring agency. It's a free-for-all. It's a monster posing as a savior for our energy needs.

My hope in writing this blog is to educate myself and others about the consequences America is facing as a result of hydraulic drilling-- both as a diverse environmental landscape, and as a nation of tax paying citizens.
